Milia

I have a small bump on my face, what is it? Sometimes this can be down to Milias, they are small, white cysts on your skin, they are sometimes called milk spots. They are commonly known to be on your face, they are harmless and only affect your appearance. Why have I got these? Milia spots can happen to everyone, the reason why we get them is because the dead skin cells do not slough away, therefore this means they get caught under the new skin which then harden and form a milia spot. They can also happen because of skin damage from something like a rash, an injury or sun exposure. Milias can grow up to two millimeters in size, but they are often smaller. They can develp in anyone, the bumps are most common in newborns, which these should disappear in about 2-4 weeks where as for an adult it isn’t as easy and they can stay around for much longer! As milia spots do not cause you any harm, there is no reason that you HAVE to get rid of them, however we know it does bother some people and it makes them self conscious about their appearance. If you feel this way then we are here to help, come to see our specialist Kirsten, she can talk you through what would be good for your skin and to get rid of those milia spots too!
