Understanding the structure of hair and how it works

Hair is composed of protein called keratin

Keratin is made up of amino acids and peptide bonds which sit in the hair follicles called polypeptides

When hair is in its natural state ie curly ,wavy ,straight it is being held together by permanent or temporary bonds.

Permanent bonds are the ones that change your shape structure when being chemically treated ie perming or chemical straightening

Temporary bonds are the ones that soften when heat is applied ie blow drying ,or straightening or tongs making it temporary till washed

When blow drying or adding any heat to your hair even hot water the bonds are broken to create the new hair shape, then when cooled they harden creating your new blow dry of straight or curly hair .

Humidity even affects the hair ,absorbing moisture from the atmosphere this then softens the temporary bond and revers back to it natural glory . So your lovely blow dryed hair will then become slightly frizzy or wavy

This is why your stylist will use the correct products for your type hair to keep its new structure.
